The primary responsibility of this role is to Manage, develop and coach direct reports, who are experts in various fields of computational life science, to provide quality leadership and recruit quality CLS candidates.
The incumbent will:
Maintain and acquire advance knowledge of omics science and technology to transform data into knowledge, to create intellectual property, to identify new input traits, to promote molecular breeding technologies, and to elucidate the mechanism-of-action of leads and products
Formulate technical and strategic CLS objectives that involve a high degree of planning and coordination, so that numerous activities converge successfully at local and global level
Collaborate with program and project heads at to effectively manage the local departmental budget and advocate for the capital and operational resources
Implement hardware and software solutions to support local and global trait research and molecular breeding activities
Represent Traits and CLS at internal collaboration meetings and external meetings, such as international conferences and collaboration meetings
Maintain working knowledge of information technology, database design and software development to provide guidance on R&D data management.
The selected candidate is required to possess the following:
Ph.D. or equivalent in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Genomics or related field and at least 10
years of post-Ph.D. industry/academic experience
Management experience supervising Ph.D. level scientists with demonstrated leadership skills
Scientific, technical and social skills for the development of internal and external network contacts of global expert teams
Expert domain knowledge of various aspects of bioinformatics and omics (e.g. genomics, transcriptomics, metagenomics)
Comprehensive technical understanding of relational databases, network design and systems, servers, and web-based software development (e.g. Python, Perl, C, C++, Oracle, Postgres, HPC cluster, etc.)
Advance knowledge of organization and annotation of plant, microbial and crop pest genomes and familiarity with public omics tools and databases
Strong communication skills to translate technical and scientific information and to communicate CLS vision to the rest of R&D.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
